BROKEN ARROW — A joint, one-day school supply drive netted more materials than Broken Arrow volleyball coach Kari Smith anticipated.
“This was just awesome. We collected five huge boxes,” Smith said following the community service project involving the Lady Tigers and Bishop Kelley’s volleyball teams.
The items were delivered to Broken Arrow Neigbors. The nonprofit organization will hand out the supplies to needy families in Broken Arrow.
Broken Arrow student-athletes are encouraged to participate in at least two community service projects during the 2014-2015 school year.
Service is one aspect of a character recognition program, known as Tiger STRIPES, that honors athletes outside of performance on the field.
Executive Athletic Direct Ken Ellett created the acronym STRIPES based on Service, Trust, Respect, Integrity, Positive Attitude, Excellence and Self Discipline.
