Bowls brighten lives, feed hungry
Students in the Broken Arrow School District created colorful, creative ceramic bowls to be sold with a soup and salad meal at the annual Empty Bowl project Tuesday night, Nov. 18.
With the purchase of a $10 ticket, the community enjoyed dinner and picked out a handmade bowl to take home.
The true bowl enthusiasts also had an opportunity to bid in a silent auction on some of the most outstanding work.
The bowls were intended to be a gift to those who attended while also reminding them of the empty bowls around the world.
At the time of this writing a total collected was not available. The goal was $6,500. Last year, the students brought in $4,000.
According to Jennifer Deal, Broken Arrow High School art teacher and Empty Bowl project coordinator, “The theme for Empty Bowls is hunger, homelessness, and poverty. A variety of classrooms explored these themes in their natural classroom curriculum.”
